Manager, Software Engineering (Account Management)

Account Management is a full stack team that owns the customer-facing self-service channels that customers depend on to manage their auth, identity, and security related state — operationally critical surfaces that directly affect customer experience, support efficiency, and fraud/risk outcomes. Working in tight partnership with our internal decisioning, checkout, risk, security, and analytics teams, this role requires a strong cross-functional leader that can effectively manage competing priorities while providing rigorous, end-to-end, technical stewardship.</p> <p><strong>What you’ll do</strong></p> <ul> <li> <p>Lead and manage a team of engineering managers and software engineers, supporting their growth and performance through regular feedback, career development, and coaching</p> </li> <li> <p>Create a long term technical roadmap that enables the team to keep up with our fast growing business</p> </li> <li> <p>Establish OKRs and critical metrics to set the engineering team’s direction and measure its success</p> </li> <li> <p>Remove roadblocks, manage team priorities, and maintain high team productivity and morale</p> </li> <li> <p>Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and tools</p> </li> <li> <p>Collaborate across teams in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design &amp; analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are well understood and managed</p> </li> <li> <p>Build relationships with people across engineering and other organizations for the design, implementation, roll-out and maintenance of projects</p> </li> <li> <p>Own availability and performance of your team’s systems</p> </li> <li> <p>Occasionally contribute to hands-on technical work when needed, such as architecture discussions or mentoring on complex technical issues</p> </li> <li> <p>Build a strong engineering culture around innovation, accountability, empathy, and execution</p> </li> <li> <p>Coach, develop, retain, and build individual growth plans for both engineering managers and individual contributors within the team</p> </li> <li> <p>Drive hiring and onboarding efforts to grow a diverse, high-performing team</p> </li> </ul> <p><strong>What we look for</strong></p> <ul> <li> <p>Typically 6-8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years managing engineers (or equivalent leadership experience).</p> </li> <li> <p>Experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity.</p> </li> <li> <p>Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale with technologies like Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes</p> </li> <li> <p>Experience developing web apps using declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue.</p> </li> <li> <p>Technical judgement to guide architecture and quality decisions, and to hold a high bar on engineering practices.</p> </li> <li> <p>Hands-on technical leadership: Expectation to stay close to the code and architecture, including doing design/code reviews, pairing when useful, and contributing directly as needed to unblock delivery and maintain a high engineering bar.</p> </li> <li> <p>Proven track record in stakeholder management, ownership, and successful delivery</p> </li> <li> <p>Demonstrated ability to grow, lead, and support high-performing engineering teams</p> </li> <li> <p>A humble, team-first leader who actively contributes to a strong team culture and invests in the development of peers</p> </li> </ul> <p><br>Pay Grade - P<br>Equity Grade - 7<br><br>Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range.
