Senior Developer

Instrument is a design and technology company. We build brands, products, and experiences that move businesses forward—by making the complex simple. For over 20 years, we’ve partnered with companies like Google, ServiceNow, Uber, Eventbrite, and ŌURA, helping them navigate change, launch new ideas, and grow with intention. Our work spans Brand, Marketing, and Product, but what defines us is how we work. We bring strategy, design, and engineering together from the start, moving quickly from idea to execution and refining as we go. We aim to do great work and be great to work with, because both matter. We’re a collaborative, hands-on team with roots in Portland and New York and a distributed presence across the U.S. and Europe. We build teams around the needs of the work, staying nimble without sacrificing craft. We value curiosity, perspective, and continuous learning, and we’re committed to building an inclusive environment where people can do their best work. If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you. The Role We're looking for a Senior Front-End Developer who enjoys building exceptional digital experiences alongside designers, strategists, and fellow engineers. This isn't a role for someone who simply executes tickets — we're looking for a collaborative problem solver who brings ideas, challenges assumptions, and helps shape the products they build. You'll work across a wide variety of client engagements, from marketing websites and ecommerce platforms to digital products and emerging experiences. Because our team is lean, you'll have the opportunity to own meaningful work, contribute to technical direction, and jump into new challenges as projects evolve. If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, thrive in a collaborative agency environment, and like building products where engineering has a seat at the table, we'd love to hear from you. What You'll Do Build modern digital experiences using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and other modern front-end technologies. Partner closely with designers, strategists, and fellow developers from discovery through launch to create thoughtful digital products. Contribute technical ideas early in projects, helping evaluate approaches, tradeoffs, and implementation strategies. Own development work from implementation through delivery while maintaining high standards for performance, accessibility, and quality. Participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and help foster a collaborative engineering culture. Identify risks early, communicate proactively, and help teams solve problems before they become blockers. Explore new technologies and AI-assisted development workflows that improve how we build. What You'll Bring Experience building modern web applications with React, Next.js, and TypeScript. Experience delivering digital products, marketing websites, or ecommerce experiences. Experience working in a fast-paced agency or consulting environment. Strong understanding of front-end architecture, compon
